Native American Moccasins

Moccasins of the Plains Indian, Southwest, Woodlands, Prairies, Plateau and Basin
(OTHER TRIBAL MOCCASINS AVAILABLE) - Sioux, Cheyenne, Blackfeet, Crow, Nez Perce, Apache, Cree, Iroquois, Woodlands, etc.
A Small Selection of Moccasins

Our Moccasins are hand made and hand beaded (using glass seed beads of various sizes - determined by the design) on smoked or brain-tanned buckskin, elk and buffalo (double and triple soled). We work with each client to design the style and type xof each individual moccasin - encompassing elements such as tribal style, bead color and pattern, etc. We also replicate a lot of old moccasins from museum photographs. Moccasins are sometimes aged to look old depending on your preference.

War Shirts / Ceremonial Shirts / Scalp Shirts - Native American War Shirts

LAKOTA SIOUX SCALP SHIRT

Replica of a Lakota (Sioux) Scalp Shirt circa 1870.

Shirt is loosely based on the Lakota war shirt presented by Little Big Man, who said it allegedly had once belonged to Crazy Horse, or that it had at least been worn by him. According to family history however, the shirt cannot have belonged to the great Lakota chief, who never kept scalps he took in war but instead left them upon the ground

CROW HAIR FRINGED SHIRT

Although the Smithsonian Institute records the original shirt as Crow - some scholars say that it is probably of Arapaho or Cheyenne origin dating from around 1880

CHEYENNE / ARAPAHO DRESSES

Cheyenne Dress  (replica)
circa 1850
Although the original dress has been identified as Sioux, it displays decided Cheyenne characteristics, not only in the cut and shape but, for example - the large amount of black beads used in the beadwork.

Description: brain tanned deer skin, glass seed beads, hand cut fringe, clay earth pigment paints, trade cloth, etc.

EARTH MANTLE

I am of the earth and I wear my mantle with its many colors. The brown for fertile soil and the green for new growth. Many journeys have been made across the straight paths of red walking under the blue sky. I have gone many directions. Each thong represents a journey accomplished and the elk teeth have given me much stamina to do what I must do. I have great wealth. There are yet many mountains to climb and I know that my journeys will be blessed with Great Spirit along my way

NEZ PERCE BOW

This bow is a replica of a bow made by the Nez Perce warrior Yellow Wolf for his friend, L.V. McWhorter who would later publish Yellow Wolf's autobiography. As the first battle of the 1877 conflict unfolded at White bird on June 17, 1877, the only weapon that Yellow Wolf had was his hunting bow, replicated here. Six red stripes with black borders decorate the bow. Wood, paint, sinew

BEADED UMBILICAL CORD HOLDERS custom plains beaded naval amulets

Beadwork of the Native American Indian

They were traditionally made for a newborn child that had come into a family. After the umbilical cord fell off - an umbilical cord holder was made as a container for the umbilical cord. This stayed with the child the rest of its life. There are no umbilical cord holders in the ones that we make, but people have bought them for their children and have had the umbilical cord put in. It becomes a family keep sake

NATIVE AMERICAN HEADDRESS

Although it does have some age, this headdress is based on the one presented to Calvin Coolidge in 1927 in the Black Hills of South Dakota by Sitting Bull's nephew. The original is housed at the Calvin Coolidge library. There is a tremendous amount of beadwork. The split trailer is edge beaded with a total of 4 beaded motifs on each side.
